The situation

A Top 50 ATP player, with the technical game fully in place and the results to show for it. The trouble lived in the hours before important matches. Pressure arrived early, and specific thought patterns kept building it higher, so that by the time he walked on court for the matches that mattered most, part of his energy was already spent managing himself. On the biggest points, he could feel himself playing a smaller version of the tennis he trained every day.

Skill was never the question. The work needed to happen in the space between preparation and performance: the evening before, the locker room, the seconds between points.

The work

The engagement ran inside Pillar 2, The Mental Game, in weekly 1:1 sessions between tournament blocks.

The first track was cognitive. Pressure of this kind is manufactured, and the manufacturing has a pattern: identifiable thoughts, arriving at identifiable moments, each one raising the stakes a little further. Mapping that pattern made it visible; learning to interrupt it made it optional. This part of the work is unglamorous and it changes everything downstream, because a player who can catch the pattern early never has to fight its full-grown version.

The second track was rehearsal. Hypnotherapy and visualization gave the moments that mattered a place to be practiced: experiencing them in a focused clinical state, repeatedly, until the body's response to them had been trained like any other part of his game. Self-hypnosis made the skill portable — a short protocol he could run himself on match day, wherever the tour happened to be. Reframing techniques rounded out the toolkit for the moments no rehearsal fully predicts.

What changed

In the client's words: calmer before matches, more present during key points, more able to play his game when the pressure increased. The pre-match hours changed character first. The energy that had gone into managing the build-up became available for the match itself. And on the points that decide sets, the version of his tennis that showed up got closer to the one from the practice court, which is the entire job description of this work.

The tour schedule keeps testing it. The protocols travel with him.

“Before working with Nicolas, I was dealing with performance anxiety ahead of important matches. The work helped me understand and interrupt the thought patterns that were creating pressure, and the hypnotherapy and visualization gave me a practical way to rehearse the moments that mattered. The self-hypnosis and reframing techniques made a significant difference: I felt calmer before matches, more present during key points, and more able to play my game when the pressure increased.” — Top 50 ATP Player
