The situation

The client arrived after the kind of ending that photographs as a victory. A long corporate career, the final chapter as CEO, closed by an acquisition: the deal signed, the outcome everyone works toward. What followed was harder to name. The obvious question, what to do next, kept turning into a different one. As the client later put it, the project was becoming someone different, and no amount of planning the next role was going to accomplish that.

This is the pattern the Long Game pillar exists for. An identity that spent decades structured around building something completes when the building does. The calendar that was once organized by something external suddenly isn't, and the usual tools for that moment, career planning among them, address the smaller half of the problem.

The work

The engagement ran inside Pillar 3, The Long Game, in weekly 1:1 sessions online.

The center of the work was rehearsal. Hypnotic future-self work means experiencing the identity ahead from the inside: spending time, in a focused clinical state, as the person the client intended to become — in specific scenes, with specific people, making specific decisions. A description of the future self stays a plan. A rehearsed future self starts to run on its own, because the subconscious treats rehearsed experience as something closer to memory.

Alongside the rehearsal sat two supporting tracks. Goal embodiment work, which trains the felt sense of an outcome instead of the wish for it. And belief work: examining the operating beliefs installed across the corporate decades, many of them useful when they were built and obsolete for the life ahead, then updating them at the level where they actually run.

What changed

The client's own summary is the best one: anchored in a new direction. The consultancy took shape as a deliberate choice. And the changes that signal an identity has genuinely taken hold showed up away from work first: more present with family, more attentive to health, more aligned with the life now being built.

That order is worth noticing. When identity work lands, the evidence tends to appear in the ordinary rooms before it appears on the CV. The new title arrived last, and by then it was the name for something already true.

Details are limited to protect identity. Shared with the client's permission.

“After leaving a long corporate career following an acquisition, I was trying to become someone different. Nicolas helped me use hypnosis, goal embodiment, and subconscious belief work to rehearse the identity I wanted to move into rather than simply plan the next career step. His program helped me feel anchored in a new direction: more present with my family, more aware of my health, and more aligned with the life and identity I wanted to build as an independent consultant.” — Former CEO, U.S. life sciences
